This is a wonderful trip highlighting the best of South Australia. You’ll enjoy time in Adelaide and the Barossa Valley before relaxing and enjoying 4-nights onboard the Murray Princess with all meals and on-shore excursions included. After, you’ll spend one night in Victor Harbour before travelling across to Kangaroo Island for a two nights stay. This holiday is full of beautiful scenery, history, great food and wine and loads of fun!
A deposit of $200 per person is required to secure your booking. This deposit is refundable or transferable if the tour does not proceed due to COVID-19 or border restrictions.
Your holiday begins when you are picked up from home by private vehicle and transferred to the airport. Meet your fellow travellers and Kings Tour Manager and fly to Adelaide. Upon arrival in Adelaide we are met by our local coach operator and transferred to our hotel. We will have time to settle in before enjoying a welcome dinner at the hotel.
Hotel: Pullman Adelaide for 3 nights
This morning a local guide joins us onboard introduces the beautiful city of Adelaide. Once we have seen the famous sights Adelaide has to offer we head to Adelaide Oval for a guided tour. Leaving here we have the rest of the afternoon at leisure, maybe wander the North Terrace cultural precinct where you’ll find the Art Gallery and South Australian Museum or the Rundle Mall with many shops waiting to be explored.
We start the day with chocolate at the Barossa Valley Chocolate Company. Next we head to one of the Barossa Valleys most iconic wineries – Seppeltsfield. We will embark on a Village Discovery tour visiting Jam Factory Craft + Design studios, FINO restaurant for a sourdough tasting with a member of FINO, Vasse Virgin skin care sampling and to finish the tour with a Cellar door wine tasting! Lunch today will be the Barossa Chateau. From here we visit the Whispering Wall which is locally known as the “acoustic miracle” before heading back to the hotel to freshen up for dinner.
We farewell the city today and head to the hills – literally! We head to Hahndorf where we enjoy some free time to explore this quaint German village. Early afternoon we are transferred by coach to the Murray River town of Mannum, the boarding point for the PS Murray Princess cruise. On arrival we complete our check in procedures and settle into our cabins with dinner soon following.
Cruise: Murray Princess Cruise for 4 nights (Outside Cabins)
Daybreak and time for the keen photographers to be out to capture the special light and the morning movement of wildlife. Prolific birdlife includes pelicans, wrens and swans. Enjoy a leisurely morning and lunch cruising upriver to Blanchetown through one of 13 locks which maintain the flow and levels of water. This afternoon we moor opposite to the township of Blanchetown for our overnight anchorage. As the last rays of the sun fade, we join a guided tour of Burk Salter Boutique Winery and surrounding vineyard and enjoy wine tasting at the cellar door which is fitted out with beautiful red gum bars. After dinner, join us for all the fun and excitement, and participate in our “Murray River Cup”.
After breakfast we cruise downriver to picturesque Swan Reach. Join the guided walking tour and visit the Swan Reach Museum (gold coin donation at entry). Cruise downriver after lunch and take in the tranquillity as the landscape slides by. When we arrive at Sunnydale, it’s all ashore for the Woolshed Show as we recreate typical Australian woolshed history. Later we visit the Native Wildlife Shelter before returning to the vessel to indulge in a great Aussie Barbecue – cooked and served in a bush setting on the banks of the mighty Murray River. An optional Nocturnal tour (additional cost) in a comfortable purpose built cart is available after dinner where you may see kangaroos, wombats, foxes, bats and owls.
After an optional early morning Bush Tucker Breakfast (additional cost) or a bush walk with the Captain, the vessel cruises slowly downriver past magnificent cliffs scoured by the river over millions of years. We reach Ngaut Ngaut Aboriginal Reserve, one of Australia’s most significant archaeological sites, for a step back in time – tens of thousands of years – for a guided boardwalk tour to view ancient rock carvings and to learn about Aboriginal history in the area. We return to the vessel to cruise downriver to Younghusband. Along the way, adventure seekers can also take a scenic tender boat ride. Tonight the Captain and his officers host a spectacular Farewell Captain’s Buffet Dinner. Dress up and dance, if you wish.
Our cruise return’s to Mannum after breakfast and we disembark our cruise mid-morning. Leaving the area we travel to the seaside town of Victor Harbour. We ride the historic Horse Drawn Tram across The Causeway to Granite Island. Feel the ocean breeze as the beautiful Clydesdale horses draw us along the jetty bridge. Next we visit the SA Whale Centre. Our guide with the help of audio-visual displays, artefacts and a 3D theatrette will introduce us to these magnificent creatures.
Hotel: McCracken Country Club, Victor Harbour for 1 night
This morning we travel through to Cape Jervis where we board the Sealink ferry to Penneshaw on Kangaroo Island. On arrival we make our way to the eastern most point of the island at the Cape Willoughby Lighthouse and enjoy a tour of the complex and chat with the lighthouse keeper. Our majestic views don’t end here. Our next stop is at the Penneshaw Hotel where we are spoilt with a wonderful outlook as we enjoy our lunch. This afternoon we will visit two unique ventures Clifford’s Honey Farm and Emu Ridge Eucalyptus Distillery.
Hotel: Aurora Ozone Hotel, Kangaroo Island for 2 nights
Today we welcome a local guide onboard the coach who will offer an interesting and informative commentary relating to all things relating to Kangaroo Island. At the famous Seal Bay we have an unforgettable guided beach walk by a National Parks Ranger. Not far away is Raptor Domain where we see the In-Flight Birds of Prey show followed by lunch. Our touring this afternoon takes us to the northern side of the Island to Emu Bay where we take a sightseeing drive and arrive at the Emu Bay Lavender Farm where we enjoy a tour.
This morning we make our way back to Penneshaw to connect with our ferry service to Cape Jervis. Once back on the mainland, we travel to McLaren Vale, the birthplace of South Australia’s wine industry. Relax in this beautiful setting as we enjoy a wine tasting and delicious lunch. Saying farewell we are transferred to Adelaide Airport for our flight home to Perth. Upon your arrival in Perth your driver will be waiting to take you home.
