A guided tour starts our day, discovering this beautiful wine region is as diverse as we anticipated. No more so than the interesting Bungaree Station. This merino sheep station established in the 1880s is still run by descendants of the original founder. We won’t be seeing a museum but rather a living record of rural Australia, revealed by a member of the family. Following a lovely morning tea, we’ll visit station sites such as St Michael’s church, the homestead gardens and the station store, which collectively gives us a wonderful insight into 19th century station life. The nearby town of Blyth gives us our lunch venue and a visit to Medika Gallery to see the works of Ian Roberts, nationally recognised as one of Australia’s premier bird painters. Enjoy a wander through his gallery before returning to Clare visiting Paulett Wines, to enjoy a tasting and the amazing panoramic views of the Valley – a lovely way to finish the day.
Amongst the rolling hills of the Clare Valley is the historic town of Mintaro. Our day’s adventure includes the living Mintaro Maze and the Georgian mansion Martindale Hall. Fans of Picnic at Hanging Rock will especially enjoy our visit to Martindale Hall as it starred as Appleyard College in Peter Weir’s famous film. We engage in a tour of the property, hearing the riveting history of both great tragedy and amazing successes, followed by lunch. It is fitting we finish our visit to the Clare Valley at the oldest winery in the region. Sevenhill Cellars was originally established in 1851 by a religious order of the Catholic Church (commonly known as the Jesuits). Begun primarily to produce altar wine, they still run the winery today. A wander around the old underground cellars and the adjoining church grounds of St Aloysius with a guide is a most enjoyable way to finish our sightseeing.
Today’s touring takes us northwest to the town of Burra where copper was discovered in 1845. A local guide will join the coach this morning to provide us with an introduction to the town’s mining history. Following our tour we head to the little wine growing region of Seven Hills where we enjoy a pub lunch. Early afternoon we head back to Adelaide where we’ll be staying at the seaside suburb of Glenelg.

Merry Christmas! We have the perfect start to the joys of Christmas Day with a leisurely breakfast before having the morning free to attend church services for those who wish or even a nice leisurely stroll along the beach or jetty just out the front of the hotel. We enjoy our Christmas lunch with all the trimmings at the hotel. Tonight we have a light supper for those who are still hungry.
Today we will be spending the day exploring Adelaide. Starting with a brief city tour ending at the Adelaide Zoo where we have some time to wonder the grounds. This afternoon we have a tour of Adelaide Oval. The redeveloped oval offers a unique blend of new and old – from the latest in stadium design to the famous features such as the heritage listed scoreboard, the century-old Moreton Bay Fig trees and the grassed northern mound. Our tour will take us behind the scenes to the inner workings of this iconic ground. We will see the old score board that is still in use today.
There is still time for a morning beach stroll before being transferred through to the Adelaide Airport for our flight home to Perth. Upon arrival in Perth your driver will be waiting to take you home.
