Your holiday begins when you are picked up from home and transferred to the airport in a private vehicle. Meet your fellow travellers and Kings Tour Manager then fly to Melbourne. On arrival we are transferred through to our hotel where we settle in.
Hotel: The Savoy Hotel on Little Collins for 2 nights
We enjoy a relaxed morning before we enjoy a morning cruise through picturesque gardens, parklands and some of the most famous sporting arenas. We enjoy some time at leisure to purchase lunch before an afternoon visit to the Docklands District for an interesting visit to the Artvo 3D Gallery, Australia’s first interactive art gallery. Unlike normal art museums, here we are encouraged to touch, photograph and interact with the art. We have free time in Docklands for some shopping. We board the Melbourne Star Observation Wheel where we will experience spectacular views over the city and beyond.
This morning, we make our way to Melbourne Airport to connect with our flight to King Island. On arrival we are met by our local guide who will be with us for the next few days. After the coach is loaded we make the short transfer to Currie – the main town, where we have time to purchase some lunch. We now check into our motel accommodation. Settle in and relax before dinner.
Hotel: Boomerang by the Sea Motel, Currie, King Island for 3 nights
Get set for a day of sensational scenery, plentiful wildlife and amazing shipwreck stories as we head along the North Road on our way to the top of King Island at Cape Wickham. Our morning tea stop will be on the west coast near Yellow Rock River looking out to Christmas Island and New Year Island. We will hear the story of the Paddlesteamer Shannon which was shipwrecked in these waters. From here we head to our lunch at Penny’s Lagoon which is a suspended lake where the water is held by compacted sand and vegetation – one of a few in the world. We head back to Currie with a stop at the King Island Dairy. Back at the motel we have time to freshen up before we head off to dinner out at Bischoffs Café.
Following breakfast, we will visit the Kelp Industries Visitors Centre; Kelp contains a substance called alginates which when processed produces a gel and setting agent that is used in numerous common products. After Kelp Industries we head along the foreshore drive to the Boathouse Gallery, otherwise known as the “Restaurant with no Food”, but don’t worry – we’ll have morning tea with us! Then we take the Scenic South Tour where we see the electricity generating wind farm and Ettrick River to the Calcified Forest where we have lunch and a short walk to the actual forest and then onto the rugged cliffs off Seal Rocks. Later this afternoon we have an appointment at Perry Beef Farm where we enjoy a tour and afternoon tea before making our way back to Currie for dinner at the motel.
After our breakfast we complete our check out formalities and load the coach. This morning, we visit the Currie Museum housed in the old lighthouse keeper’s residence. From here we have some free time in Currie for last-minute souvenir hunting. We transfer to the airport for our return flight to the Melbourne Rex terminal. On arrival we are transfer to Melbourne Domestic terminal. Here we farewell the group heading back to Perth before the remaining passengers are transferred through to our hotel where we settle in and enjoy dinner.
Hotel: Canterbury Hotel International for 5 nights
Garden and Nursery and the National Rhododendron Garden. From here we head to the Cuckoo Restaurant at Olinda for lunch, designed in the Bavarian Chalet Style with exceptional food, hospitality and entertainment. After lunch we head to Belgrave and embark on the Puffing Billy Steam Train to Emerald. On arrival our coach will be waiting for us to transfer us back to the hotel to complete a sensational day.
We have planned a full day at the Tulip Festival today (final program to be confirmed) where we will experience a display of over 500,000 tulips in more than 100 varieties. Sculptures by some of Australia’s top artists are displayed among the flower beds. Throughout the duration of the festival, there will be events that focus on specific aspects of the history of the tulip set amongst beautiful scenery. Don’t miss the giant clog, which you can sit in for a photo to take home!
We have planned a wonderful day with our first visit to Cruden Farm. The venue is more than eighty years in the making and the heart of a working farm. This is actually the garden of Elisabeth Murdoch’s personal farm and is a small piece of country set amid dense suburbia. Next we arrive at the Ashcombe Maze and Lavender Gardens for a visit and lunch break. From here we travel to Arthurs Seat – the highest point of the Mornington Peninsula. On a clear day the view extends as far as the city skyline, the You Yang Mountain Ranges and Mount Macedon. We board the state of the art Arthurs Seat Eagle Chairlift and take the gondola journey, as we travel over state forest making our way to the bottom. From here we return to the hotel.
Today we head into the Yarra Valley. Fist up we head to Rayners Orchard where we take an Orchard Fruit Adventure Tour around the farm with a guide explaining the characteristics of the trees and their fruit. We will have a tasting to sample how good the produce really is, as well as have morning tea. From here we travel through Coldstream where we visit Coombe Yarra Valley – it is one of the largest and oldest family estates in the Yarra Valley. The Coombe Cottage property includes seven acres of historic, landscaped gardens and today we take a tour of the gardens and enjoy a lovely lunch. We have a short drive into The Yarra Valley and in Yarra Glen we visit Alowyn Gardens. Here we will have an informative and educational experience for anyone interested not only in gardening, but also the enjoyment of a beautiful garden. To complete our touring this afternoon we visit the Yarra Valley Chocolaterie and Ice Creamery.
This morning we transfer to Melbourne airport for our return flight to Perth. On arrival we are transferred home with many wonderful memories of our holiday with friends.
