Depart Perth from Elizabeth Quay and travel north along Indian Ocean Drive. We stop for morning tea before continuing on to the Pinnacles Desert in Nambung National Park. As we approach, your driver will provide you with the interesting facts about how these limestone structures (some as high as 3.5 metres) were formed approximately 25,000 to 30,000 years ago. The Pinnacles Desert Discovery Center has interpretive displays that will also provide you with an insight into the natural processes that formed the amazing limestone structures, as well as information on the biodiversity of the park including its unique flora and fauna.
After, we head for Cervantes; home to beautiful white sandy beaches and turquoise waters teeming with marine life. It is also home to the Lobster Shack. It is owned by the Thompson family and the story starts with David Thompson Senior on the helm of his boat ‘Seatips’.
Back in the 60s living out of a coastal shack settlement 200 kilometres North of Perth, David and his three sons worked on the sea together, fishing every day for the elusive Western Rock Lobster.
Today, these three sons have raised their own sons to become lobster fishermen.
Here you will enjoy lunch and a tour of the factory.
The factory tour provides visitors with a firsthand look into the regions multi-million dollar lobster industry by taking a journey through the LIVE lobster processing plant at Indian Ocean Rock Lobster.
The adventure begins with a video presentation on their boats, finding out firsthand how the exclusive Western Rock Lobster is captured in the wild and transported to shore.
Once at the doors, visitors will be guided through our newly refurbished factory on our overhead walkway, where you will stand about live holding lanes that can hold 20 tonnes of Lobster.
Mid-afternoon, we return to Perth arriving at approximately 4:30pm.
