Beginning in Darwin, this four day, three night, 2979km all-inclusive journey will take you to some of the most remote and captivating parts of Australia in style and comfort. Your adventure through the country’s vast, varied, and captivating interior will leave you speechless. It’s the ultimate Australian outback experience.
Onboard you will find sumptuous dining, elegant private cabins, attentive service, and the camaraderie of your fellow travellers. And when the train stops, the adventures begin. Choose from a huge range of included off-train experiences to create your own rich and rewarding personal journey through Australia’s outback and beyond.
A deposit of $200.00 per person is due within 7 days of making your booking to secure your reservation on the tour. The deposit will be refunded in full if the tour is cancelled due to COVID-19 prior to your second deposit being paid. If you decide not to travel for personal reasons, then your deposit will be held in suspense to use towards another Kings Tour in the future.
An additional second deposit of $800.00 per person is due on or before Friday 22 April 2022. After this date deposit will be total of $1000 upon booking. Please note after this date both your deposits become non-refundable due to Great Southern Rails Terms and Conditions.
Single berth cabins on the Ghan are shared bathroom facilities.
From 1 January 2022, guests will be required to be fully vaccinated prior to travel. Proof of vaccination will be mandatory at check-in and must be sighted by Journey Beyond staff. Any Federal and/or State government directives requiring vaccination before the dates mentioned above will supersede the above dates.
Your holiday begins when you are picked up from home by a private vehicle and transferred to the airport. Meet your fellow passengers and Kings Tour Manager and fly to Darwin. Upon arrival we will transfer you to the hotel where you can settle in. Tonight you will enjoy dinner in the hotel restaurant.

Today as been left at leisure for you to enjoy Darwin how you wish.
Your journey begins with a morning departure from Darwin. Once you’re settled into your private cabin, mingle with fellow travellers or sample the exceptional food, wine, and service onboard. When it’s time for lunch, savour the regionally-inspired menu accompanied by a selection of all-inclusive wines and beverages, before an early afternoon arrival at the Top End township of Katherine. Choose between a relaxing cruise through Nitmiluk Gorge’s ancient natural wonders and exploring the region’s rich Indigenous culture, or experience a glimpse into the lives of those who call the outback home, with a fascinating day of discovery on a huge cattle station. Enjoy dinner as the sun sets over the outback, then back in your cabin you’ll find your bed turned down. Fall asleep as the train rolls soothingly onwards.

You don’t need to decide which one to do in each place until you are on the train.
After your first night on The Ghan, you’ll be greeted by a morning view of the spectacular Red Centre. A full day of excursions awaits you in the outback town of Alice Springs. An optional upgrade is a scenic flight to Uluru, returning in time to meet the rest of your fellow guests at a spectacular barbeque dinner under a million stars at the historic Alice Springs Telegraph Station.
From your morning stop at the outback outpost of Manguri, you’ll venture into the weird and wonderful opal mining township of Coober Pedy, where more than half of the residents live underground. Here, you’ll enjoy a day of discovery, and a gourmet lunch in the most unique of locations: underground. Dinner is served back on the train where you can enjoy a nightcap as your journey continues.
From your cabin window this morning you’ll see a dramatic change in landscape, as the rich ochre tones of the outback make way for the green fields of South Australia. Enjoy a leisurely brunch as you pass through the majestic Flinders Ranges and prepare for your mid-morning arrival into Adelaide, completing one of the world’s great travel experiences. Upon arrival, we will be met by our coach driver who will take us on an enjoyably brief city tour before we head to our hotel and have our final dinner together.

This morning you have at leisure. Just before lunch we will be transferred to the airport for our flight home to Perth. Upon arrival, your driver will be waiting to take you home.
