We wake to the freshness of the mountain air, we are surrounded by the beauty of the area, and being autumn the colours will be memorizing – burnt orange, deep reds, earth tone browns, haystack yellow, and this is just the leaves! Our day will include many unique attractions known to the area. Our first stop is to the little township of Eurobin visiting the Red Stag Deer Farm where we enjoy a talk, some time with the animals and morning tea. Travelling into Bright we meet up with our guide for a look at this enchanting town before some free time for you to explore on your own. This afternoon we travel along one of the most beautiful drives in this area – through the Wandiligong Valley where we visit Nightingale Bros which is an apple farm.
The Bright Autumn Festival is a ten day celebration of the wonderful autumn colours and autumn produce of the valleys of Victoria’s Alpine High Country. We’re lucky enough to be here for the highlight of the festival – the Rotary Gala Day! We enjoy the festival at leisure. In the afternoon we watch the Grand Parade, the highlight of the festival! After the parade, follow the police band down to the river bank to take in the afternoon atmosphere of the Gala Day.
Silos are drawing crowds to small country towns in Victoria, so this morning we’re off to do a little silo spotting of our own. Not far from here is our first silo – the Goorambat Silo – a Barking Owl, which is critically endangered. In Devenish, see Cam Scale’s artwork representing the changing role of women in the military – a First World War nurse and a modern-day combat medic. Our last silo is in Tungamah to see brolgas and a kookaburra. We’ll have lunch in Benalla before we are joined on the coach by a local expert for a tour of the city’s famous street art and then we enjoy a visit to Kate’s Cottage (named after Ned’s mother) and witness the events that led to the capture of the Kelly Gang at Kelly Land at the Glenrowan Tourist Centre.
Our touring today takes us into the Milawa gourmet region, where we stop at Tarrawingee to visit Tolpuddle Farm specializing in goat cheeses. Keeping with the fabulous food theme of the region next up is Milawa Mustards located in the Old Emu Inn building before travelling a short distance to visit the Olive Shop. Akatest the tasting counter there are local olives, olive oils and olive oil based dressings to sample. Our lunch today has been arranged at Brown Brothers Vineyard before continuing with gourmet tastings as we visit Hurdle Creek Still which is all about gin.
This morning we head to Beechworth, where on arrival we will be joined on the coach by a local expert who will show us around the town which is one of Victoria’s best preserved gold rush towns. From here we embark on a tour of the historic Court House. Next you have a little time to wander the Beechworth Historic and Cultural Precinct – The Telegraph Station, Town Hall, and Powder Magazine all part of the collection of nationally significant buildings. We then visit the The Kelly Vault that houses the original Ned Kelly’s death mask, Ned Kelly’s gun named Betty, Brother Dan Kelly’s pistol and the original table from the verandah of the Anne Jones Hotel. After an interesting day we return to our hotel and enjoy dinner.
Today we travel to Yarrawonga which is situated on Lake Mulwala – the next downstream reservoir from Lake Hume and enjoy a short cruise aboard the MV Paradise Queen. Back on dry land, we head to Rutherglen and Indigo Cheese Company where we enjoy lunch before heading next door for some wine tasting at All Saints Estate, the grandest of the Rutherglen wineries. Before our day ends we visit the Corowa Whisky and Chocolate Factory.
This morning we say farewell to our hosts and travel to Melbourne. We enjoy a stop at Mansfield for a town tour before heading to Melbourne Airport for our flight home to Perth. Upon arrival into Perth your driver will be waiting to take you home.
