Your holiday begins when you are picked up from home and transferred to the airport in a private vehicle. Meet your fellow passengers and Kings Tour Manager then fly to Darwin. Upon arrival in Darwin we will transfer you to the hotel, where you can settle in. We are lucky to be in Darwin on a Thursday night to explore the famous Mindil Beach Sunset Market. It is a major social event and this fabulous local market offers over 200 stalls with nearly 60 food stalls from more than 30 different countries where you can choose what you would like for dinner (at own expense).
Hotel: Oaks Elan Darwin for 2 nights
Today we take in the sights of Darwin. First up we see Parliament House built on the site of the Darwin Post Office bombed during World War II and then proceed to The Museum and Art Gallery of the Northern Territory. Today’s touring also includes a visit to the new Crocosaurus Cove and Aquascene for the chance to feed the fish as they come close to shore on the turn of the tide (timing is tide dependent). Tonight our dinner is aboard the Spirit of Darwin as we watch the sunset on the harbour. We see the Darwin skyline from a totally different perspective while enjoying an interesting commentary and dinner.
We head down the Stuart Highway to join the Arnhem Highway and make our way to Kakadu National Park. On arrival we head into the park and travel to Ubirr Rock – the site of one of the best and most accessible rock art galleries. From here we make our way to Cooinda where we have time to checkin to our overnight accommodation before boarding our magical Yellow Water Sunset Cruise. Nowhere else will we see such a concentration of so many species of diverse wildlife than here, including Brolgas, Egrets, Jabiru and hopefully a crocodile or two. Back on dry land, we return to our hotel for dinner.
Hotel: Cooinda Lodge, Kakadu National Park for 1 night
After breakfast we head to Nourlangie Rock. The walls of this rock have served as canvases for thousands of years, providing windows to a rich spiritual tradition. From Nourlangie, we visit the Warradjan Aboriginal Cultural Centre to gain an understanding of the Bininj and their country. Leaving here we depart the National Park to Pine Creek where we stop for lunch. This afternoon we continue onto Katherine where we check into our accommodation and enjoy dinner.
Hotel: Knotts Crossing Resort, Katherine for 1 night
We have a special outing this morning as we take the Dawn Cruise on Katherine Gorge. The colours of the early morning
create a visual feast as the first two gorges awaken – mist rising above the smooth surface, wildlife stirring from the night, the air crisp and clear. Back on dry land, we enjoy breakfast at the Nitmiluk Café. Leaving the area we head to Litchfield National Park. We enjoy a picnic lunch and then spend some time exploring the park. Later this afternoon, we return to Darwin.
Hotel: Oaks Elan Darwin for 2 nights
Today is left at leisure to enjoy Darwin how you wish.
Enjoy a leisurely start before checking out of our hotel and heading to Stokes Hill Wharf. We visit the Indo Pacific Marine for a unique tour showcasing the beauty of the Northern Territory Marine environment. It’s lunchtime now and Stokes Hill Wharf is a great location for a break and plenty of lunch options to choose from (at own expense). Before leaving the wharf we visit the Royal Flying Doctor Service and Bombing of Darwin tourist facility – two iconic stories in one iconic location! From here we head to Darwin Airport for our flight home to Perth. Upon arrival in Perth your driver will be waiting to take you safely home.
